Types of Braces

Thanks to today’s advances in orthodontic technology, Bock Orthodontics can provide our patients with more options when it comes to wearing braces than ever before.

What is Orthodontics?

The purpose of orthodontics is to treat any type of malocclusion, or "bad bite." When you have a malocclusion, that means your teeth, lips and/or jaws don't line up the way they should. As a result, your teeth may be crooked, your bite may not work correctly and your jaws may look unbalanced. To correct malocclusion, Orthodontists, dentists who are specially trained, use braces and other corrective appliances and procedures, to achieve tooth and jaw alignment. This correction of the teeth and their supportive structures makes for a healthy, attractive smile.

Metal Braces - American Orthodontics Master Series

The most common type of braces are metal braces. They are made of stainless steel and they straighten teeth using brackets that are bonded to the outside surface of the teeth with a wire that connects them together. Braces can have colorful elastic ties which are selected at each appointment. Braces can also be Self-ligating which do no require the use of elastic ties, instead it has a specialized clip to help the archwire guide teeth into place.

Master Series is the versatile, metal twin bracket system that orthodontists around the world have trusted for more than 25 years. All Master Series brackets feature a technologically advanced, visually intuitive design that seamlessly adapts with your clinical expertise. Master Series' patented Diagonal Torque and Diagonal Angulation makes bonding precision simple, delivering exceptional results with fewer wire bends. Choose traditional Master Series brackets, smaller Mini Master brackets, or our smallest Low Profile (LP) brackets depending on your treatment needs. Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as metal braces, except that they use clear brackets that blend in to teeth. They can easily change your smile within six months.

After fittings, you will need to go for regular check-ups so as to make sure the braces are well places as well as adjust your wires. The treatment often takes 1-2 years after which you will be fitted with a retainer that is properly aligned with the new positioning of your teeth. The material that makes the ceramic braces may eventually make the treatment take longer than traditional metal braces. But it might be your best option if you;re looking for a more discreet look.

When it comes to food always stay away from hard and sticky food that might stain your teeth and the ceramic braces. Also cut down to sugary snacks in between meals otherwise your teeth might start to decay. Remember the braces will also have to be kept clean at all times so invest in them wisely.

Advantages of Ceramic Braces

  • They are less visible than metal braces
  • They blend with teeth nicely
  • They are less painful as they do not irritate the gums

Invisalign™ uses a series of clear aligners that are custom-molded to fit you. The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks or as prescribed by Dr. Bock, moving your teeth into a straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. And unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and brush your teeth as usual. Dr. Bock sees patients every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments and to check progress. At regular intervals, you'll receive a new set of custom-molded clear aligners to continue the straightening process. The total number of clear aligners is specific to you, determined by Dr. Bock for your course of treatment.
